Summer Institute on Catholic Education

New Special Needs Program
The Alliance for Catholic Education (ACE) at University of Notre Dame is beginning a unique, grant-funded project to help Catholic school teachers respond to the demands of educating students with special needs in Catholic schools. New Degree Program to Prepare Catholic High School Religion Teachers
The Theology and Education Departments at Creighton University are pleased to announce a new joint program that enables entering college freshmen who are interested in becoming Catholic high school religion teachers the opportunity to earn a BA and MA in theology, as well as Nebraska teacher certification in religious education, in just 5 years. Manhattan Receives NCLB Grant
Manhattan College is the recipient of a No Child Left Behind (NCLB) grant that provides funds to Catholic School Educators in the five boroughs of New York City. Applicants approved by the NYC Department of Education's Title IIA Office can apply to Manhattan College to take courses in School Building Leadership.
Participants will receive NCLB funds that pay for a 30-credit MS Ed or a 21-credit Professional Diploma leading to New York State certification in School Building Leadership. Teachers Academy for Catholic High School Students
In collaboration with Cardinal Dougherty Catholic High School (Philadelphia, PA), Neumann College developed the Catholic School Teachers Academy. This academy enables Cardinal Dougherty juniors and seniors who are interested in the teaching profession to earn up to 12 transferable college credits from Neumann College while still enrolled in high school. These students can then begin college with virtually one semester of course work completed thus making it possible for them to enter the teaching profession in fewer than four years. The students are afforded opportunities to participate in tutoring projects at local Catholic elementary schools to enhance their classroom experience and participate in seminars and workshops conducted by Cardinal Dougherty and Neumann College personnel. The students are not charged tuition for these courses.

New Distance Learning Leadership Program
The format of the courses included in the Master's Degree Program in Educational Leadership at University of Dayton is designed to provide pertinent knowledge that will immerse the students in experiences that are applicable to the future role of the school principal. All assignments are completed via the internet. The University of Dayton is offering a 50% tuition scholarship for Catholic school educators. New Catholic Leadership Program
In collaboration with the Office of Catholic Education of the Diocese of Wilmington, Deleware, Neumann College (Aston, PA) has developed a graduate program in Catholic School Leadership. The Diocesan Office of Catholic Education identified individuals from their schools who have demonstrated the potential to assume roles of leadership. These individuals enroll in a 36-credit Master of Science degree program in which courses are designed to address issues particular to Catholic schools.

Australian Catholic University Plans Conference for August 2007
ACU is planning an international conference on Catholic educational leadership for July 29 -- August 1, 2007 in Sydney, Australia. The conference's theme will be "Catholic Educational Leadership for the 21st Century". ACU plans to bring together leading Church, international educational leaders and scholars, and exemplary practitioners to generate discussion. Prior to the conference, there will be a two day graduate seminar at which students in educational leadership programs will be invited to present short papers and reports of their studies and receive feedback from their colleagues and international scholars in Catholic educational leadership. Online Catholic Leadership Program Launched
The Archdiocese of Omaha and Creighton University have jointly constructed a cohort master's degree program to prepare successful leaders for elementary and secondary schools in the Archdiocese. Each course in the program emphasizes the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed by Catholic school leaders. Program participants agree to serve a school in the Archdiocese for at least three years as an administrator upon completion of the program.
